Our Secret Weapon Is a Sawmill

Most contractors buy whatever the lumberyard stocks. We mill our own — which means the beam over your ranch entrance, the rails in your fence, and the mantel over your fireplace can be exactly the dimension, species, and character your project calls for.

Our custom sawmilling serves Paradise Valley — Emigrant, Livingston, Gardiner — plus Bozeman and the surrounding communities, for our own builds and for yours.

What Comes Off the Mill

  • Rustic beams — structural and decorative, for archways, porches, and interiors
  • Dimensional lumber cut to spec for framing and finish work
  • Fence material — posts and rails for our fencing crews and for ranchers who build their own
  • Siding and paneling with real character
  • Mantels, slabs, and specialty cuts for one-of-a-kind features
  • Your logs, your lumber — bring us timber from your own property and we’ll mill it into your project

Why In-House Milling Matters

  • Tighter quality control — we see every board from log to install
  • Faster turnaround — no waiting on a distant supplier’s schedule
  • True custom sizing — the design isn’t limited to standard dimensions
  • Sustainability — managed-forest sourcing, minimal waste, and short hauls
  • Any scale — from a single mantel to the timber package for a full archway or barn

Rough-Sawn: When the Texture Is the Point

Rough-sawn stock leaves the mill at full nominal dimension with the saw texture still on it — a rough-sawn 6x6 is actually six inches, and it reads as a beam rather than as a piece of lumber. That scale and character is why we cut our timber pergolas from it, why builders spec it for false beams and feature work, and why dressed lumber next to it tends to look undersized. The false beam installation photos in our gallery show the same stock working indoors.

Pre-Cut Packages for Your Crew

Because we mill and fit timber for our own arches and pergolas, we can cut the same packages for yours: pergola and arch kits dimensioned to your opening or your patio, fitted and marked at the mill, delivered ready to raise. It’s the middle path between a catalog kit that ships in standard sizes and paying for a build crew you may not need — and the honest comparison of those three paths is worth reading before you decide.

From Our Mill to Your Project

Sawmilling is the quiet engine behind much of what we build — log archways, custom decks, pergolas, fence lines, and structures. For a deeper look at what custom milling opens up on a ranch project, see turning local timber into useful materials.

Custom Sawmilling — Questions We Hear a Lot

What can you mill?

Rustic beams and mantels, dimensional lumber, siding, fence rails and posts, decorative accents, and specialty architectural cuts — sized to your specs rather than what's on a shelf.

Can you mill logs from my own property?

Often, yes — turning your own trees into your own beams, siding, or fence material is one of the most satisfying projects we do. Tell us what you have and what you want it to become.

Is your sourcing sustainable?

Yes — we source from managed forests and responsible suppliers, and milling in-house means less waste and shorter hauls. Local wood, local mill, local projects.
