Rough-Sawn: When the Texture Is the Point
Rough-sawn stock leaves the mill at full nominal dimension with the saw texture still on it — a rough-sawn 6x6 is actually six inches, and it reads as a beam rather than as a piece of lumber. That scale and character is why we cut our timber pergolas from it, why builders spec it for false beams and feature work, and why dressed lumber next to it tends to look undersized. Pre-Cut Packages for Your Crew
